This research article evaluates how community-based tourism (CBT) in Indonesia recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020 and early 2026. By comparing four distinct destinations—Penglipuran, Wae Rebo, Nglanggeran, and Pemuteran—the authors distinguish between mere "bounce-back" restoration and "bounce-forward" transformation. The study introduces the Community-Based Tourism Resilience Configuration (CBTRC) framework, identifying five structural pillars, such as customary-institution capacity and livelihood diversification, that determine long-term durability. Findings suggest that communities with robust local governance and diversified income streams adapted more effectively than those relying solely on external aid. Ultimately, the work highlights that traditional social structures acted as vital crisis infrastructure, offering a blueprint for sustainable recovery and future disaster preparedness.
