Makaely's story:

Hi, My name is Makaely! I am a mama of two! Cedric is 4 and Juniper is 2. As any mama of little's knows, they keep me on my toes! This journey through motherhood has not always been easy and I am so excited to empower other women with my story. When my son was born he struggled through colic and acid reflex which, in turn, led to him crying almost constantly until the age of 4 months old. We struggled through breastfeeding and neither one of us slept, EVER. This was a recipe for serious hormonal imbalance within myself. It wasn't until my son was 6 months old that I was sharing my struggles with a beloved cousin when she gently suggested that I might be going through postpartum depression. At that point in my life, I was not ready to accept that might be an underlying issue because my mother suffered greatly with PPD and Bipolar disorder. To my knowledge, post partum depression meant you did not care for your children and had no emotional bond with them. That with absolutely not the case between me and my son. I began doing research about postpartum depression and quickly realized it was a spectrum and not a one size fits all. 1 of the major contributing factors for my post partum depression was Not being afforded a proper recovery due to my son being placed in the make you for the 1st 5 days of life while my husband was in his 1st week as a police officer fresh out of the police Academy. Weeks of lack of sleep was another major contributing factor and once I was able to overcome any feelings of shame and lean on my husband for help things started looking up. Another major change was removing all toxins from my home and adopting a more naturalistic lifestyle. When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter I opted for a 100% natural pregnancy and birth. I was able to give birth in a birthing center outside of a hospital with no synthetic pain medications or an epidural. I was also able to recover properly and bonded with my baby girl in a more natural setting. The night and day difference between my pregnancy and birth with my 1st and 2nd is indescribable! If I can help at least 1 mama find a better way, I've done my job.
