Serving a mentor to small businesses is a fulfilling activity after retirement, says Chet Ross, Managing Director of Devon Associates. "Mentoring is coaching an individual in their professional activities," he says. "It’s providing the experience of someone who has business or trade experience and conveying it to someone who is developing in that area."

As a volunteer Ross has served as a regional vice president in the Southwest for the SCORE Association, a past district president for SCORE in Arizona and past chapter chair for the Greater Phoenix SCORE Chapter. SCORE (https://www.score.org/) is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. Prior to that, Ross was president and CEO of Waterlink Inc., a New York Stock Exchange company, which he led, through acquisition and internal growth, into a leading company in the water and waste-water treatment industry.
