PTSD is very well known and associated with veterans; however, they are not the only ones who suffer with this illness. People who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events also suffer from PTSD.
People suffering with PTSD may go through intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to an experience long after the traumatic event has ended. Reliving the events through flashbacks or nightmares. Some may feel sadness, fear, anger and/or detached or estranged from other people. Those with PTSD may avoid situations or people that remind them of the traumatic event, having strong negative reactions to loud noises or an accidental touch.
It’s our responsibility as healthcare professionals to be educated and informed. With that being said we’re going to link an assessment screening tool for PTSD.
