0:08 - Global fossil fuel politics have grown complicated as the war in Ukraine rages on, and many countries are exploring plans to divest to some degree from Russian oil and gas. Antonia Juhasz (@AntoniaJuhasz [1]), an author and investigative journalist covering climate, energy, and oil, joins us to discuss these effects on oil and gas.
0:36 - California has extended limited covid-related eviction protections for three months. Tenants in many California cities now have less protections than they did just over a week ago. We speak with Nirali Beri, is a Tenants' Rights Staff Attorney at Centro Legal de la Raza [2], as well as Ora Prochovnick, Director of Litigation and Policy at the Eviction Defense Collaborative [3] in San Francisco. We also open the phones for listeners to ask our guests questions about their protections as tenants.
1:08 - Charlie Eaton (@CharlieEatonPhD [4]) is a professor of sociology at UC Merced. His new book exploring the relationship of finance capital to higher education is Bankers in the Ivory Tower: The Troubling Rise of Financiers in US Higher Education [5].
1:50 - Schools in Oakland have been balancing budget politics between the county and the district, handling threats about the implications of potential those issues. Mike Hutchinson (@blackholemikeh [6]) is the OUSD School Board Director for District 5, and joins us to discuss those issues.
