A Non Mom Happy Hour

Poverty and The Pink Tax

Listen Later

This week Debbie Jo and Kelly talk with Teysha Lemanski of Cloth Connection Outreach. Teysha is a mom, a Spoonie, an Etsy store owner, and general badass who founded CCO to help meet the needs of other women who may lack affordable access to reusable feminine health products.
CCO is an entirely volunteer-based organization near Detroit, Michigan, that distributes reusable cups and pad kits to women in need. The ladies talk about poverty and living in the middle of not making enough money to survive but making too much to receive assistance, where it can be difficult to access feminine health resources.
They also discuss the "Pink Tax" and the barriers that are presented to women living in poverty or experiencing homelessness because, while the FDA qualifies period products as medical devices, menstruation itself is not considered a medical condition...
Why the fuck should it be so hard to be a woman and access the products we need for reproductive health and hygiene?!
