Charlie Barton has a Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Change, supported by a Master's in Business Administration (MBA).
She credits her time in the US Navy with getting her interested in quality management and process improvement. Dr. Barton's research findings on sustainable process improvement are in use throughout the globe (77 countries as of 2023). She has spoken nationally and locally on topics related to business excellence. 2018 she said at the ASQ World Conference on Quality about her research findings.
Since 2017, Dr. Barton has volunteered to serve on the Arkansas Institute of Performance Excellence Board of Examiners. As a Senior Examiner and team leader, Dr. Barton and a team of 6 to 8 professionals use the Baldrige Excellence Framework to examine an applicant's submission for the Arkansas Governor's Quality Award.
Dr. Barton works with businesses to identify the natural causes derailing their success, develop action plans that deliver, and guide change management initiatives. She uses analytical tools to identify process and system improvement opportunities, change management techniques to build effective transformation processes, and storytelling techniques to address the human side of resistance to change. Pre-Covid, she conducted workshops and seminars on process improvement and business excellence topics. Every business is composed of systems and processes that interact. Understanding these interactions is vital to producing a system and processes that deliver reliable results for the client.
