Listen Later

With this adversity is spreading up every. One must not get depressed with it. In this episode I am presenting the story of Sindhutai Sapkal. Sindhutai was brutally beaten & abandoned by her husband when she was having over 9th month of pregnancy. She gave birth to her child unattended. She was bound to cut the umbilical cord with a stone. She was even rejected by her own mother. She took shelter in crematory. Over there she used to collect remaining flours which was left by people over after last rites of dead. She used to knead it, made rotis & baked it over fire to feed her children. She entrusted her child to a trust, for proper care.

She started taking care of orphans. Time passed like that. Many orphans whom she served started calling her "Mai" - The mother. He build her orphanage. Many of her children are now well educated and in good posts. One of her child did a PHD on her life.

Her biopic in marathi "Mee Sindhutai Sapkal" was released in 2010 and selected for world premiere at 54th London Film Festival.

President of India awarded her by "Nari Shakti Award" - India's Highest Award dedicated to women - in 2017.
