September 27, 2015 John 16:33 reads: “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” The Greek word for tribulation is thlipsis. It actually translates “pressure”, literally or figuratively. It means affliction, anguish, burdened, persecuted, or troubled. How do we respond to the pressure? There are three main response options: 1. Throw a Pity Party •In one simple sentence of the Bible, we told to reject all pity parties. •1 Thessalonians 5:18 - “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of god in Christ Jesus for you.” •If we are giving thanks in ALL circumstances, there is no room for self-pity. 2. Fill with Pride •The definition of pride is “a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.” •Ecclesiastes 7:8 - “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.” •“Welcome to Holland” by Emily Perl Kingsley 3. Find Your Peace •Our Peace comes from our position IN CHRIST. He says that we may have perfect peace in Him. •2 Thessalonians 3:16 – “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” •Notice he gives us peace and then he tells us to be courageous. He doesn’t say “courage will come over you” or “I will give you courage.” He says, “be courageous.” It’s a choice. We can choose to be courageous. What is God’s Spirit speaking into your life today? How must you respond?
