Understand that we were not chosen by God because we were qualified before him, but we are qualified because he chose us. This understanding will bring you to a point of humility before God, that our acceptance and qualification before God was not as a result of our works. 

Jeremiah 1:5 KJV: Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
