PPP02: Brief History of Ancient Grappling to modern Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)

Listen Later

Triangles are the strongest geometric shapes and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the most effective martial arts int he world.  At the base of the development of BJJ are ancient grapplers from India, China and Greece. As the triangle moves to a point the Japanese created an open hand combat art called Jiu Jitsu used by Samurai.  As the sun set on the time of the Samurai a visionary developed it into a more recognized and popular art called Judo.  World travel and chance meetings then placed this innovator in Brazil and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) was born. In this episode I fill in the gaps with the names of the ancient arts through the modern masters that gave us the great discipline of BJJ.
Thank you all for listening and Godspeed,
Kevin
