Day Four Task Four
The challenge today is to find the journalist who is most likely to be interested in your story.
If you're pitching to a local paper, it may be the writer who covers business news.
Or a certain area of where you live, often known as a district page.
If it's a magazine, look for names of the regular writers.
If it's a blog, find out the name of the person who runs the blog and make sure you're up to date with what is happening in their life.
This means that rather than you sending an e mail and it never being seen, you are finding the right person to contact and if they say yes to your idea, you are building a relationship for the future as well.
You want to be their go-to person - the person they call or e mail each time they need help or expert comment with a pet story.
Then you become known as the expert in your area and stand out from the crowd.
There's another podcast and blog here which goes into finding the right journalist in more detail.
https://www.publicityforpetbusinesses.co.uk/how-to-find-the-right-journalist-to-contact-with-your-press-release/ (How to find the right journalist to contact with your story)
Once you've got your list, come and share them in the Facebook group,
https://www.facebook.com/groups/RachelSpencerPRChallenge (PR Challenge private Facebook group)
There will be a Zoom call at 6pm where you can come along and get some feedback on your pitch.
