Welcome to Episode 50 of Praestabilis: Excellence in Marketing
Perfectionism and minimalism are the topics in Episode 50. I discuss the importance of letting perfectionism go and believing that the imperfections in the world are to be celebrated. I share the story of how the dent in my new car came to be, and why I chose not to have it repaired. We must remember that perfection is only in the eye of the beholder and that even if something appears perfect in your eyes, that may not be the case in the future. Think about the parts of your life you are not living to the fullest because you are concerned about them not being perfect. This kept me from writing and speaking for many years. Once I released my belief that everything had to be perfect my life and my thinking changed from the inside out.
Becoming minimalist is a choice. We all have too much stuff in our lives and it’s important to understand that “we are enough” with everything we do and have. I’ve written an article about becoming minimalist you may wish to read. Taking full responsibility for our life frees us up to have more people, places, and experiences in my life. New shoes or jewelry or furniture do not make us the person we want and deserve to be.
Think of your life and business as a way to share your personal feelings, thoughts, and beliefs with the world. I first learned about this as a concept from the people who were in my first Rotary Club when I joined in 2006. They each had something they felt strongly about and incorporated it into their business. The psychotherapist was an animal lover and had photos of rescued animals in her office. That would start the conversation with her clients and many of them got involved. The man who owned a car dealership had sons who were active in local theatre productions and that became a way to connect with prospects and customers. What do you care deeply about that can be a topic to discuss to set yourself apart from others in your niche or field?
Actions are everything and bring about the results we wish to achieve. Be sure to come aboard for my complimentary Action Habits Challenge and we can work through this topic together. As a part of this training I am highly recommend the book Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action by Simon Sinek.
