Welcome to Episode 59 of Praestabilis: Excellence in Marketing
In episode 59 the topic is around the concept of using your writing to change and improve your life. I did this as I was transitioning from working as a classroom teacher and in real estate as a broker and residential appraiser back in 2006 and couldn’t have chosen a better business model to follow. This allowed me to do what I describe as “changing myself from the inside out.”
Writing did not come naturally for me. I had wanted to write since I was eleven or twelve years old. I talked about the stories I would write on a regular basis. In college at UCLA I took some classes on creative writing and screenwriting and completed all of my assignments on time. But the bottom line was that, other than writing that was assigned to me over the years, I did little to no writing on my own.
Fast forward to 2021 and I have written and published well over two million words. Writing every single day is a great joy for me. People think of me as a writer because of one thing – I write! If I had ever imagined that earning a seven figure income and living the lifestyle I have designed and love could come about as a result of my writing, I would not have believed it possible.
I’m encouraging you to write every day. Write about what you know, share stories from your heart and your life experiences, and publish your writing, at least online for others to read. My most recent website and blog is Monday Morning Mellow and you can get an idea of what I’m sharing with the world and how this can become a business model for you. See all of my books I’ve published here. Also, here are some things that will enhance your life experience…
* Reading books not having to do with my business. Right now I’m reading the revised and updated version of The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, and Long-Term Health by T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell II, as well as Malcolm Gladwell’s latest, The Bomber Mafia: A Dream, a Temptation, and the Longest Night of the Second World War. Reading in this way allows me to expand my mind and thinking so that I can see beyond the confines of marketing and other topics I know very well.
* Creative writing. I think of this as writing for pleasure. My writing practice has expanded significantly over the years, and in July of 2019 I started a third blog called Monday Morning Mellow in order to have a home on the internet in which to share these stories.
* Getting away from familiar surroundings. I began this early on in my entrepreneurial journey by going to a hotel located about an hour from my home for an overnight stay. This hotel was at the beach in Ventura, California and gave me a new perspective on my life and my business that became priceless to me over time.
* Unplugging completely. This was a tough one for me to embrace, but once I did I was able to see dramatic results in my outlook on life, level of creativity, and how I was able to navigate the waters of life and business. I highly recommend you do this for 24 hours each week for best results.
* Talking to people from other walks of life. I talk to strangers and this had made the difference in how I am able to interact with others and improve my life’s progress.
