Shloka 10: अन्याश्रयाणां त्यागोऽनन्यता॥ १०॥

anyāśrayāṇāṁ tyāgo’nanyatā.

अन्य-आश्रयाणां – all other supports; त्यागः – renunciation; अनन्यता – (is) single-heartedness

Whole-hearted or ananya devotion means relying solely on God for support and giving up the need for all other support.

Narad Ji further explains what being Ananya in Bhakti means. One of the symptoms of being Ananya is that internally in our mind we don't seek any support other than the support of God. This is not just about external support. This is also about depending upon the support of our intellect or our physical strength, our social status etc. In Ananya bhakti, we don't depend upon any such support apart from the support of God. The truly elevated bhakti yogi does not even depend upon the support of their own good karmas. It is a mindset where we realize that it is all God's actions, it is God alone who is ultimately supporting us. That is total surrender to God. This requires humility and total lack of pride along with complete faith in God. We can attract the grace of God when we are in this mindset.

We may think wealth, social status or fame can give us security. But ultimately we realize that we are still insecure. Everything will eventually fail us, but the Lord never fails us. We must take refuge in him alone.
