Shloka 16: पूजादिष्वनुराग इति पाराशर्यः॥ १६॥

pūjādiṣvanurāga iti pārāśaryaḥ.

पूजादिषु - in the worship of the Lord – in all engagements that encourage the unbroken flow of thoughts towards the Lord; अनुरागः- deep love with firm attachment; इति - thus; पाराशर्यः - son of sage Parāśara: Śrī Vedavyāsa

‘In the worship of the Lord with deep love and firm attachment,’ thus declares the son of sage Parāśara, Śrī Vedavyāsa.

So now, Narada Ji is giving the opinion of Ved Vyas Ji about the symptoms of divine love. According to Ved Vyas, one of the symptoms of divine love is the desire for puja or worship of the Lord. This is termed as Anurag.

Anuraga is an intense desire for God. Prahlada says: “O Hari! May not the ceaseless flow of love and attachment leave my heart, while I am constantly meditating upon Thee.” (Vishnu Purana I-20-19).

Prahalad’s description of the various activities involved in devotion are mentioned in the Shrimad Bhagavatam, 7.5.23 and 7.5.24.

Prahlāda Mahārāja said: Hearing and chanting about the transcendental holy name, form, qualities, paraphernalia and pastimes of Lord Viṣṇu, remembering them, serving the lotus feet of the Lord, offering the Lord respectful worship with sixteen types of paraphernalia, offering prayers to the Lord, becoming His servant, considering the Lord one’s best friend, and surrendering everything unto Him (in other words, serving Him with the body, mind and words) — these nine processes are accepted as pure devotional service. One who has dedicated his life to the service of Vishnu through these nine methods should be understood to be the most learned person, for he has acquired complete knowledge.

Devotion may not be consistent for a devotee who is not yet established in Bhakti yoga. When it is fully ripe, the devotee has an intense desire to worship the Lord constantly, without taking their mind away from God for even a second. This kind of constant and focused ananya bhakti is termed as Anuraga.

Worship includes rituals like offering of flowers, fruits, milk, water, incense, etc. It also includes mental worship as well as meditating and chanting the name of the Lord. All these kinds of worship help one to keep the mind fixed on God.
