It’s said that the average person can hold their breath for about 30 to 90 seconds. That’s not very long, but try holding your breath for that long, and it can feel like an eternity. Why? Because breathing is essential to life. Without oxygen, we can’t survive.
That’s what prayer is to every believer. It’s as crucial as the air we breathe. And yet, many of us struggle in this area of our walk with Christ, even though we know how essential it is. No wonder we often feel weak or weary. We don’t get on our knees, depending on the God of prayer, as we should.
So, take a moment to reflect: How is your prayer life? How long do you go before coming up for “air”? Do you involve Jesus in every part of your life through prayer? It’s often been said: “Without prayer, nothing matters.”
Join us this Sunday as we explore James 5:13–18 and consider the difference it makes when prayer is your life.

When prayer is my life, it will be evidenced by…
…consistency (v. 13-14)
Top 5 excuses why I don't pray:
1) I don't have time.
2) I don't feel anything I pray.
3) I don't know what to say.
4) God already knows my need.
5) It doesn't seem to work.
BONUS: I find prayer can sometimes be intimidating.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
…faith (v. 15)
Colossians 1:15-17
I pray because I can’t help myself. I pray because I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God. It changes me.
~ C.S. Lewis
…humility (v. 16a)
…fervency (v. 16b-18)
