Fear keeps us from obeying God. “What if it wasn’t really God speaking to me? If I step out and do this, what if I fail or it turns out badly for me? What if God doesn’t come through for me?” Some of the highest and longest bridges in the U.S. offer special assistance now. They provide a “driving service”. Upon request, one of the bridge’s attendants will get behind the wheel of the car and drive the over the bridge for the timid driver. Michigan has a “Timid Motorist Program”. They help hundreds of drivers a year over the Mackinac Bridge. It is five miles long and rises two hundred feet above the water.

Prayer is the act of allowing Jesus to take the wheel. He helps us and doesn’t chastise us for being fearful. Imagine the fear that gripped Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. He has been tempted in all points like us yet he is without sin. He identified with every human emotion, including fear.
