Prayer against famine Oh Lord of heaven and earth you are the giver of every good gift the provider who feeds the birds of the air and clothes the flowers of the field Today we lift our voices to you in sorrow and urgency As hunger stalks the land and famine threatens your people we cry out for mercy oh God Let not your children perish for lack of bread Send rain upon dry lands Let the earth yield its increase once more Bless the labor of farmers and workers Restore what has been lost to drought war and neglect Forgive us where our greed and indifference have contributed to others' suffering Teach us to share from our abundance and act with justice and compassion Strengthen the hands of those bringing relief Guide leaders to make wise and courageous decisions and stir the hearts of nations to respond with urgency and love We look to you our shepherd and sustainer our refuge in every storm May your mercy flow like rivers and your provision like rain upon the land
