What happens when we exchange the glory of God for a covering of our own making?

Romans 3:23 declares, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Sin does more than violate God’s standard—it causes humanity to fall short of the glory and presence we were created to dwell in.

In this episode, Nikki Garcia explores The Counterfeit Glory, tracing the pattern back to the Garden of Eden. Before the fall, Adam and Eve were naked and unashamed, living under the covering and presence of God. But after sin entered, they recognized their nakedness and attempted to cover themselves with fig leaves. Humanity began trying to manage what only God could cover.

Yet God did something powerful: He removed their inadequate covering and clothed them Himself.

This episode examines the danger of taking what God has created, provided, or entrusted to us and using it to manufacture our own glory, identity, covering, or significance. What looks impressive may still be a fig leaf. What appears to be glory may actually be a substitute for the presence of God.

Through Romans 3 and Genesis 2–3, we’ll uncover the difference between dwelling in God’s glory and attempting to clothe ourselves with a counterfeit version of it—and why redemption through Jesus Christ restores what sin caused humanity to fall short of.
