Our names can invoke different responses. If we see a loved one's name in a graduation program or award announcement, it brings us great joy. But if we see a loved one's name in an obituary or police blotter, another set of emotions is invoked. God's name is the same. the Lord's prayer says"hallowed be His name" but we live in an unholy world. How do we have a holy God with a holy name in such an unholy world? We misuse and dishonor God's name when we teach a false gospel, when we use His name to lie or cover up something that is wrong, when we use His name in the act of swearing or cursing, or when we call ourselves Christian but live contrary to the Gospel. Instead, we keep God's name holy by teaching his Word in truth; when we call upon him when we are in trouble; when we pray, praise and give thanks; and when we trust Jesus alone for our salvation.
