In this episode, Mars Luna's triumvirate of Joshua Luna (Josh), Kainalu Kamai (Nalu) & Holokahiki Toves (Holo) breaks down the behind the scenes stories, performances and creative processes of the second Mars Luna EP "Prelude" (available on Spotify & Apple Music). They discuss:
- the events that led to the creation of Mars Luna's "Prelude" EP and the song breakdown behind each song (In An Instant, Selfish, Gypsy Girl, Boulder City & Take It Slow).
- the origins of the "Prelude" name and how it wasn't the original working title for the EP.
- how Josh met Morgan Wright at Kollaboration Honolulu in 2013 (pre Mars Luna), reuniting with Morgan at the Sticks & Stones open mic performance in 2016 and working on "Prelude" at his first home studio in Vegas.
- Josh's introduction to Angelo Munji (Moon.Gee) after an open mic performance at Kaffe Live in 2016, their experience trying out for The Voice, how Angelo became the feature for "Selfish" and having Mars Luna be an opener for Angelo's release show for his album "Momma Knows Best".
- the first Mars Luna performances in Las Vegas and the official release show with Angelo and Morgan for the "Genesis" & "Prelude" EPs at Kaffe Live.
- Holo's recap of his Las Vegas trip in 2015, Josh becoming a tour guide for him, the harsh Vegas winter weather and how a casual exploration of the city led to the official "Prelude" photoshoot.
- Living out high school romantic fantasies during the "How Can I Live Without You / Take It Slow" music video, and how Nalu being careless with his gear almost led to the video shoot being cancelled.
- Holo going through Tinder to find a model for his photography project "U N I T Y", how that process led him to find the female lead for the "Selfish" music video, working with a film slate for the first time and how Josh, Holo and Nalu had enough footage for two different versions of the video. (foreshadowing)
- what motivates them to create art, the Disney movie "Soul" and whether art has practical value in the world.
