Prep for Grade 8 Cello Chromatic Scale to 4th Position Fingering Pod-Class Free Lesson ABRSM.
hi everyone so i'm just going to go over the uh fingering for the prep exercise the chromatic scale from grade 8. we're going to start on g i think this is the most useful um at the moment we will we should really work on them all but i it's the fingering that i want you to grasp today okay i'm just going to go up to the shift when it goes on to fourth position and and later on we'll or in another class we'll go from fourth position up um to to that uh very high bit i think that's um that's quite a lot to do all in one go so we've got open g and this is the standard fingering for chromatic scales open one two three one two three open one two three one two three open one two three one two three and down to fourth okay and then we'll be going on to do the rest um in the next episode now obviously um it's quite hard to get it uh spot on at first you're gonna need to work on this um i haven't done these for a while either so i'm a bit rusty
so uh what you what you can do is make sure that when you come on to this c sharp and then to the d that you're a semitone and likewise here okay because normally in the normal run of things we might be doing a forward extension there on that um a flat with a fourth for example or if we're in second position we might do it with a second so using a third is going to throw you a little bit okay but a little bit of work a little bit of practice and you'll be able to do that okay um so the fingering naught one two three shift down to one uh not one two three shift to one two three open and back extension and etc um really absorb all that today um before we start the elegy which we're going to start later on um we're only going to introduce ourselves to the to a few basics and um i don't think we'll have time to do a whole line but we'll certainly be thinking about how to find that opening note and very very important for us and we'll be listening and understanding um uh when to come in with the piano also very important i want you to listen to it i forgot to put it up last night but i'll put it up today um on on the blog so um yeah very good very good uh keep working at that do it i was doing it a bit fast there so
really keep it nice and steady nice and slow um it's a good opportunity to practice your bowing technique make sure you're dead straight and and and also how you will how you will you could do staccato even
uh that's quite a good um way to practice as well as many different ways as you can of course for the actual exam um you would be asked to do separate bows and slurred both
okay i mean i like sled bearing myself i'm better at it than separate but the examiner would ask you one or the other so you need to be good at both but i'm not going to do um slurred now there's plenty of opportunity for that in the coming 30 days challenge okay so yeah bye
