Is waiting for the answer to prayer proof that we cannot rest on a specific answer to prayer? Most would have you think that. Many tell you that when you pray and do not receive an immediate answer to prayer that God said no, maybe or here is something else. But, the reality is, God is waiting. Waiting for us to wrestle the answer of our prayers through. Because it is only with perserving prayer that we can understand if what we are asking for are in the right way, and not amiss (James 4:4).

St Monica waited many years for the conversion of her son St Augustine. Sometimes we need to wait a long time as well.
