Over the past two years, there has been controversy over the authenticity of President Tsai Ing-wen’s Ph.D. degree and dissertation. That’s despite the fact that the London School of Economics (LSE) has confirmed the authenticity of both on its official website. Tsai received a doctorate from LSE in 1984. Her dissertation topic was unfair trade practices and safeguarding actions.

On Wednesday, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office charged a former TV program host and college professor Peng Wen-cheng for aggravated libel. The plaintiff? President Tsai ! Prosecutors said Peng spread rumors about the president in order to boost the hits of his YouTube channel and that he failed to verify information.
