Pride Connection

This week several BPI members got together to discuss the unique obstacles we face as blind LGBTQ+ people during the holidays. We discuss everything from dealing with how our families react to our sexuality and gender identity when we get together for the festive season, to overcoming challenges with depression when everyone else seems so jolly. Over the past few months Blind pride international has partnered with Bold Blind Beauty for the awakening the senses conversations.

With the holidays approaching, we spoke about different ways of celebrating, opening up and being vulnerable, and some misconceptions about dating Blind/sighted people, and of course sensuality and sexuality.

The Florida Sculptors Guild showcases an innovative concept in sculpture exhibits: We invite people to touch the art as another way to enjoy and explore it. The show was curated specifically for people with visual impairment. "ReVision" goes beyond visual perception.

This week on ACB Media 1 at 10 PM, Pride Connection talks with the President of BPI and Jessica who is a new President of a new Disability Democratic Caucus about marching, canvassing and herding members. They give us their insights to being Blind or Low Vision and participating in the Democratic process as well as inspiring others into activism.

After 18 years of assuming she was straight (thanks, society), Sarah realized she was aromantic asexual, and it's been a wild ride ever since. A proud Michigander (Go Blue!) who moved to Los Angeles in 2020 to pursue a career in television writing, her interests include bingeing entire TV shows in a single day, spending her life savings on musical theater, and diverse representation in media both in front of and behind the camera.

Over the course of the first year of Sounds Fake But Okay, Kayla learned that she was not just straight, but demisexual. She is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan and has now moved to Baton Rouge with her partner. She loves long sits on the couch watching musicals and old lady activities such as paint by numbers.
