For those who missed last weeks big news - Paleo brand favorite, Primal Kitchen was acquired by Heinz fo 200 million. Figure I'd hop on and voice my concerns. This isn't the first natural product brand acquired by companies who have built empires on the heels of shit food products with shit ingredients. Over the last few years, we have seen RX Bar (junk) and Epic (fading) get acquired by Kellogg and General Mills. Ritzfit Nation - have you actually ever noticed an improvement in the products after the big deals? I'd argue that most have noticeably gotten worse, but then again that's just my opinion. I'm all about scaling better products, but if you've ever listened to me rant or talked to me in person, then you know what I look for first when approving products, and that's who's behind it. I don't trust Heinz to keep the product same or improve it. The label may stay the same, but my guess is sourcing takes a hit, as does any of Primal Kitchens previous sources. Mark Sission, creator of Primal Kitchen and one of the main influencers of the Paleo movement makes out like a bandit in this deal. Dude was getting old so I understand an exit strategy. I can't empathize with being offered 200 million, but what I can do is love the people in the community and respect the Paleo movement. I don't think that was expressed in this decision. Just to be up front - I hated Primal Kitchen products, however, I do believe from an ingredient standpoint it is a decent choice. And I believe that someone directly involved in the small tight-knit paleo community could have carried on the legacy of the brand in a much more community loyal fashion. When have you ever seen Heinz set up at Paleo FX? Are we going to still see Primal Kitchen at our events? How do we welcome them? Does Heinz leave the label the same but choose to use their ingredient sources? All viable questions, questions I hope Mark Sission asked before he sold the company... Click play to learn more about my concerns in greater detail. I apologize for the cursing in advance:) Want to support companies who innovate products with an ingredient minded approach?
