Sermon Notes — “His Name: Prince of Peace

December 20, 2015
KLC 2015 Theme: Seeking His Kingdom “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Lesson Text:

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)

Sobering Statistics:

In 2014 there were almost 60 million refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) around the globe right now.
Put another way, that’s one in every 122 people worldwide.

Annually, the U.S. has about two fewer gun homicide deaths per 100,000 people than Iraq,

which has 6.5 deaths per 100,000 2013 saw a 61% increase in the number of people killed in terrorist attacks vs 2012.

If it were a country, New Orleans (with a rate 62.1 gun murders per 100,000 people) would rank second in the world.

Prince of Peace = the future ruler of a kingdom that will be characterized by peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

Isaiah 9:7 (ESV)

5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins. 6 The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.

Isaiah 11:5–6 (ESV)

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Luke 2:10–14 (ESV)

The birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, means His kingdom ARRIVED.

20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, 21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
Luke 17:20–21 (ESV)

His kingdom has arrived and is ADVANCING. It's both HERE and IS YET TO COME

33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”
Matthew 13:33 (ESV)

The kingdom advances as men and women SURRENDER to Christ.

If you been saved by the Prince of Peace, making you a citizen of His kingdom, live as a PEACEMAKER on the earth.

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility

Ephesians 2:14 (ESV)

9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Matthew 5:9 (ESV)
