We don’t typically learn about the covert operations behind major news stories until years later, but the backstory is often even more interesting. 
Stephen Metelsky lectures on organized crime at Queen’s University and teachers criminal psychology at Mohawk College. He’s just released a new book titled Undercover: Stories from the underworld of law enforcement and he joins us to talk about some of those stories this morning.

Chapter 3: Over 50% of British Columbians are $200 per month away from financial insolvency
It can be difficult to measure the exact impact the pandemic is having on people’s personal finances, but the MNP Consumer Debt Index is one useful metric we can look at. 
They just released their findings for the most recent quarter and it found that half of British Columbians are just $200 a month away from insolvency.

Chapter 4: Some Vancouver Island businesses shutting down voluntarily 
We know we aren’t supposed to travel right now, but there aren’t actually any laws in place that prevent people from travelling outside their community. 
It’s actually gotten so bad on the islands that some businesses are closing their doors rather than deal with visitors.

Chapter 5: Teachers' union calls for Fraser Health K-3 mask mandate
Teachers unions in the Fraser Health Region have signed a letter calling on health officials to take even more action to prevent transmission in schools. 
More aggressive health measures were introduced by the province last week but these groups feel they still don’t go far enough in light of the continued increase in daily case figures.
