In a landmark verdict, the boyfriend of a Navajo woman, whose case became a symbol of the international movement dedicated to addressing the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in her tragic demise.
Tre C. James, 31, was convicted on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix for both domestic abuse and the fatal shooting of Jamie Yazzie. The jury also held James accountable for multiple acts of domestic violence committed against three previous intimate and dating partners.
James is slated to be sentenced in late January.
