Prison News, Bill Cosby accuser files new lawsuit

Listen Later

A woman who alleges that Bill Cosby sexually assaulted her over 50 years ago, when she was a young comedy writer, has filed a lawsuit against the actor. The legal action was initiated under a New York law that provided a one-year window for victims of sexual abuse to bring forth claims that would otherwise be barred by time limits.Joan Tarshis, who initially made accusations against Cosby in 2014, repeated her claims in the recent lawsuit. Tarshis alleges that Cosby drugged her and compelled her to engage in oral sex in 1969 or 1970, and later drugged and raped her during another encounter a year or two later. The lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court in New York City, details that Tarshis, a resident of New York at the time, was living in California during the first assault. She had met Cosby through a mutual friend while he was starring in "The Bill Cosby Show."
