In an Austin, Texas courtroom on Wednesday, opening statements were presented for the trial of Kaitlin Armstrong. She stands accused of fatally shooting 25-year-old elite cyclist Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson in Texas in May 2022.
Armstrong has entered a plea of not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in connection with Wilson’s tragic death. Prosecutors claim that the act was driven by romantic jealousy.
Prosecutor Rickey Jones solemnly addressed the jury, stating, “The last thing Mo did on this Earth was scream in terror. Those screams were followed by two gunshots – one to the front of the head, and one to the side, grazing the index finger as it passed. There were no more screams after that.”
Jones added that audio from surveillance footage captured the harrowing sound of Wilson's screams.
Defense attorney Geoffrey Puryear contended that Armstrong is a “woman ensnared in a nightmare of circumstantial evidence.”
