The trial of rapper YNW Melly in South Florida ended in a mistrial due to a deadlocked jury. After three days of deliberation, the 12-member panel could not reach a unanimous verdict on the charges that he murdered two of his friends five years ago. The Broward County prosecutors, who sought the death penalty, will likely retry the case with a new jury as a unanimous verdict is required for conviction or acquittal. YNW Melly, whose legal name is Jamell Demons, was accused of shooting Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. while they were inside a Jeep. Prosecutors claimed it was a gang-related action, but the defense argued that the victims were actually close friends of Demons. The trial of Cortland Henry, known as YNW Bortlen and charged as an accomplice, will be held separately.
