One of the strongest negative emotions that we experience is regret – an emotion uniquely tied to how we perceive the quality of our decisions.
So what can we do about it? New York Times best-selling author Daniel Pink joins me in this episode of the Problem Solved Podcast to discuss his new book titled Regret. In our conversation, he shares what he learned from conducting the largest sampling of American attitudes about regret ever conducted in his World Regret Survey—which has collected regrets from more than 16,000 people in 105 countries. The result: He’s identified four core regrets that most people have and how to respond well to them.
Soren Kierkegaard once said:
I see it all perfectly; there are two possible situations – one can either do this or that. My honest opinion and my friendly advice is this: do it or do not do it – you will regret both.
What we might glean from this sage advice is that we should all learn more about this powerful emotion and what it can teach us about what we value in our decisions.
What you will learn in this podcast:
Daniel H. Pink is the author of five New York Times bestsellers, including his latest, The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward. His other books include the New York Times bestsellers When and A Whole New Mind — as well as the #1 New York Times bestsellers Drive and To Sell is Human. Dan’s books have won multiple awards, have been translated into 42 languages, and have sold millions of copies around the world. He lives in Washington, DC, with his family.
