*checks date* Ah, January 24th! I have just the obscure holiday for you today. Prepare to be enlightened about:
National "Just Do It" Day
No, this isn't a Nike ad. Rather, National "Just Do It" Day is all about overcoming procrastination, taking action, and finally accomplishing those things you've been putting off forever.
Legend has it this holiday was started by a chronic procrastinator named Nigel Nortonberry back in 1973. Nigel woke up one fateful January 24th morning and decided he was sick and tired of his "I'll do it later" attitude. His novel remained half-written, his garage desperately needed cleaning, and he still hadn't made that dentist appointment from 6 months ago.
So Nigel declared January 24th the day to just DO IT - no more excuses! He finished his novel's first draft, mucked out his garage, booked that dreaded dentist visit, and felt an immense sense of accomplishment. Nigel shared his story and soon this holiday caught on in his hometown and beyond.
So in the spirit of Nigel Nortonberry, use today to cross off all those pesky lingering to-dos. Finally frame that poster that's been gathering dust. Make that phone call you've been avoiding. Sign up for those guitar lessons you keep talking about. Carpe diem and just DO IT!
Treat yourself to something nice afterward too - you've earned it. Just don't put off the reward until tomorrow, or you'll miss the whole point. Happy National "Just Do It" Day!
