On this episode we look at techniques that are all related to decreasing impulsiveness. These tactics cripple procrastination because they remove distractions and let you focus on the task at hand.

* Set a goal
Knowing what you are pursuing will provide clarity along your journey to achieving it.
* Create short term expectations
Committing to just 5 minutes of focused work can generate the momentum and great the lock that procrastination may have on you.
* Eliminate temptations
If you know yourself, then you know what you’ll want to distract yourself with. Remove those items or get yourself away from them.
* Make failure painful
No one likes to fail but you’ll avoid it even more if you create painful consequences for yourself.
* Remove distractions
Things are bound to come up but if you can predict them you are more likely to succeed. Things like silencing your cell phone.
* Create routines & habits
Identify what habits you already have in place and attach the work you need to do with those existing habits.
* Use reminders
Review your goals regularly and make them visible so you are constantly reminded of the talk at hand.
* Don’t suppress thoughts
Pushing your thoughts aside will just make them come back louder. Instead, acknowledge them, record them, and commit to addressing those ideas later.
* Make progress visual
A great way to succeed is by knowing your making progress. Find things you can measure and review them often.
* Use negative pairing
Associate your unwanted temptations with things you already despise. This will push you further from those distractions.
