  • Your Supplier Used AI. Is the Price Still Right?

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

Your leverage isn’t what your supplier saved. It’s what you could do instead.

AI is changing how suppliers deliver work, but that doesn’t automatically mean their productivity saving belongs to the buyer.

In Episode 4 of Procurement at AI Speed, I look at a more useful commercial question:

Is the price still right for the service we would buy today?

AT&T’s move to bring more routine legal work in-house with AI provides a useful example. Rather than simply negotiating a lower hourly rate, some of the work itself moved.

    That changes the sourcing conversation.

In this episode, I explore three questions to bring into your next renewal:

    1. Under the deal we signed, who keeps the efficiency gain?
    2. Which parts of this service would we buy differently today?
    3. When is our next real chance to reprice — and what needs to be ready by then?

The episode also looks at why longer-term contracts may need a price review when AI materially changes how the service is delivered — not as an automatic price cut, but as a reason to reopen the commercial discussion.

And there’s an important caution: a low price built on future AI productivity that hasn’t actually materialised may simply move the commercial problem into delivery.

    The practical takeaway:

Don’t start by trying to prove how much AI saved the supplier.

Start with something you can actually test:

What would we buy differently today?

  • Your AI Contract Says No. Can the Agent Still Do It?

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

What happens when your AI contract requires human approval — but the system can still allow the agent to act?

In Episode 3 of Procurement at AI Speed, I look at the gap between contractual authority and technical enforcement.

A rule written into a contract or policy only goes so far if the technology can still execute the action.

Using a simple procurement scenario, I explore three questions worth bringing into the next sourcing and contract discussion:

    • What is the agent actually allowed to do? • What technically enforces those limits? • And who owns those controls after the contract is signed?

I also look at NVIDIA’s recent announcement of technology designed to enforce boundaries outside the AI agent itself — not as a product recommendation, but as a signal of where the market is heading.

    The practical takeaway:

Don’t just ask whether an AI control exists. Ask to see what happens when the agent tries to cross it.

Because telling an agent what it can do is one thing. Technically stopping it from crossing that line is another.

The $100,000 approval threshold used in this episode is an illustrative scenario.

  • When AI Saves Time, Who Turns It into Value?

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

AI can save procurement teams time. But what happens to that time next?

In Episode 2 of Procurement at AI Speed, I look at the difference between releasing capacity and actually turning that capacity into a better business outcome.

Using an example from BCG’s research on technology procurement, I explore what can happen when AI makes an individual task faster but the wider procurement process — approvals, decisions, negotiation preparation and priorities — doesn’t change with it.

The episode asks a practical question:

If an AI initiative reports thousands of hours saved, what did those hours become?

I also explore why capacity value isn’t automatically financial ROI, and three things every significant AI use case should make clear:

    • Where will the freed-up time go? • Who owns the outcome? • What evidence will tell us it actually happened?

    The bigger question:

Who owns turning the time AI saves into an outcome we can actually see?

  • If AI Does More of the Work, Where Does Procurement Create Value?

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

If AI can increasingly do the work, where should procurement people create value?

BCG modelling suggests that redesigning procurement around AI could free up as much as 60% of buyer capacity. But capacity on its own is not value. What matters is what procurement does with it.

In the first episode of Procurement at AI Speed, Zina Amir Moafi explores what AI-driven productivity means for procurement, strategic sourcing and commercial decision making.

If AI takes on more research, analysis, contract review, supplier comparison and process execution, the opportunity is not simply to make the same procurement processes faster.

It is to move more human capacity toward the decisions that can actually change commercial outcomes: challenging the problem, interpreting the analysis, understanding negotiating leverage, balancing risk and value, and building stronger supplier and stakeholder relationships.

Topics include AI in procurement, procurement transformation, strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, commercial judgement and buyer productivity.
