Professor Ibrahim Abubakar, FMedSci is Pro-Provost (Health), Dean, Faculty of Population Health Sciences and Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, University College London ( UCL - https://www.ucl.ac.uk/tb/people/professor-ibrahim-abubakar ). He was previously director of the UCL Institute for Global Health until July 2021. Prof. Abubakar was appointed National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Senior Investigator in 2017 and elected Fellow Academy of Medical Sciences in 2020. He led the UCL Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology, UCL-TB and was a senior investigator at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Trials Unit. He was also head of TB at Public Health England and prior to his appointment at UCL, he was Professor in Health Protection at the Norwich Medical School. Prof. Abubakar qualified in medicine in 1992 and initially trained in general medicine before specializing in public health medicine. His academic public health training was undertaken at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), University of Cambridge and the University of East Anglia. Prof. Abubakar is a member of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board ( https://www.gpmb.org/ ), Chair of Lancet Migration: global collaboration to advance migration health, Lancet Nigeria Commission and the NIHR Global Health Professorship Committee. He also served as chair of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Tuberculosis until 2019 and of the Wellcome Trust Expert Review Group on Population Health until 2022.
