Welcome to the Political Brief. Today we're talking about the latest Trump merchandise: a MAGA Instant Pot, part of the so-called “45/47 Collaboration” launching July 4 with the tagline “Make America Great Again.” A portion of proceeds will go to the Trump Presidential Library – unusual since library foundations are nonprofit after a president leaves office.
Trump’s turning the presidency into a profit engine: upcoming deals include Lenox fine porcelain dinnerware, gold-plated utensils, MAGA glasses, even bedding from Live Comfortably and Simply Interior Homes. Companies say they’re “extremely supportive of President Trump and the MAGA Agenda.”
He also unveiled a Trump-branded mobile phone touting “27/7 telehealth support ‘all from your own homw’” – a typo-laden announcement that’s as absurd as it sounds.
Financial disclosures show Trump raked in $57.3 million from crypto platform World Liberty Financial, $3 million from a Save America coffee table book, millions more from sneakers, fragrances, watches, bibles, NFTs, and guitars. Critics point to the Emoluments Clause, forbidding presidents from profiting off office, but so far, no enforcement has stopped this unprecedented hustle.
