Most experts believe that we are in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution.

The previous revolutions brought forth new technologies and different ways of working. Many skilled workers found themselves replaced by machines. Yet, it created an opportunity for education and prompted the adoption of a whole new skill set needed to handle the then-modern machinery.

The fourth industrial revolution is going to be fundamentally different than the others with its blend of all forms of technologies and their interaction across the physical, digital, and biological domains.

The top 10 technologies that will transform the global economy in the next 20 years and will have an impact on the future of Project Management are:

Not every emerging technology will alter the Project Management landscape – but some truly do have the potential to disrupt the status quo, alter the way we manage and control projects.

According to Dr. Alexia, “We rely so much on software”. It's very easy to make mistakes in software we use. As Dr. Alexia suggest, it's extremely important for those in project controls or in any other field to always double check the numbers and the output from the software and develop some sort of gut feeling and intuition for when numbers are wrong. “The last thing you need is for your report to go out with the wrong numbers. The last thing you need is to base your decisions perhaps on incorrect information”.

Wayne also thinks that we use technology very well. However, we should not use technology in our industryat the loss of thinking.According to Wayne, “It is extremely important that you candiagnose problems and solve them. I don't think any amount of softwareis going to do that fight.Yes, software is going tospeed things up but it's still a thinking person's game.”

So,“make sure you stay up to date on things. Make sure you know what'sgoing on in your industry”.And make sure to stick to your strengths and focus on what you are good at!
