Gnarled Miscellany

Project Studio

Listen Later

Welcome to episode 51 of the Gnarled Miscellany Podcast.

This episode is a run down of the project I have been working on for the past few weeks.

That project being, my new studio.

Due to needing to reclaim the room my current studio is setup in, I am needing to move to something else. Instead of building a permanent structure I purchased a 19ft tandem axle trailer that will be retro-fitted into a recording studio and creative space.

The trailer. It tows really well.

This will require a bit of work to strip out the current internals and re-fit and sound treat the walls. But once it's done, I think it'll be an awesome space.

I created a Bullet Journal section in OneNote to manage this project.

There I kept to-do lists, lists of required purchases and their costs and other general information about the project. I used OneNote as I could then not worry about having my Journal on me when we went to hardware stores etc, it was all available on my phone.

OneNote Item List

Upon acquiring items in the list I simply taped the check box so I could see at a glance what I had purchased and what was left to get.

After stripping out the internal cabinets and fittings for bed, table and couch. I found the back corners of the floor were rotten so cutting out more than I needed to, I replaced two sections of floor.

Fortunately the water damage was limited to relatively small sections but I had to give the entire floor a good going over to make sure I didn't miss anything that could pose a problem later.

I also had to seal up a few stray leaks, then replace a few moisture soaked wall panels along with some of the insulation. Though this was a pretty straight forward process over all.

All the new wall panels have been moisture treated just in case any just in case.

I'm going to carpet the floor and walls and also sound treat the walls with acoustic panels to make it sound good when recording. A later modification will include the windows being replaced with double or triple glazing.

A custom alarm system is going in with a few smarts that will alert me to anything untoward going on with the trailer.

This is still a work in progress and expect it will be another few weeks before it's ready to move in to. But it will be exciting to have the studio layout exactly as I want it.
