The nation of Ammon (modern day Jordan) is a neighbor to Israel and dwell in territory that is considered the "Promised Land". Chapter 10 tells us a story about how the nation of Ammon picked a fight with David. This war with Ammon will be the background for chapters 10-12. The story of David and Bathsheba will take place within this war, Uriah dies in this war. Nevertheless the conquest of Ammon is a key part part of Israel moving forward and taking the "Promised Land", which is something they have really struggled with till now.
