Certainly, the allure of money and its ability to twist priorities is a relevant topic. For some, the improper priority is money; for others, romance, work, or even one's children. There is something in every human heart that has the potential to be, or already is, an idol. The young man's idol was his money; his misconception was that he could save himself.
Jesus' followers, however, don't reject earthly wealth or despise it. They can be grateful for every good gift that comes from the hand of God. What we gain from following Jesus is worth more than anything we could have or hold on this side of heaven. That unbreakable inheritance is ours because the Father willing let go of his Son for our sake.
Key thought: Heart order matters; and God knows the heart.
