Big Idea - In the book of Deuteronomy, we see three vital voices that were to have significant influence in guiding and shaping Israel as a nation - the prophet, priest, and king. What is the primary role of each, and why is it necessary to heave each of these voices speaking in our life? How do these different perspectives bring balance and spiritual health into the our family, Church, and ministry? Which one do we line up with according to our own personality and gifting, and how can we bring other voices to balance ourselves out? Finally, how is Jesus the perfect combination of all three?
The prophet is the voice that anchors us firmly in the Word of God, proclaiming God's revealed will, and truth, and calls us to align our lives in obedience to this revelation. The priest is the voice of counsel and encouragement who calls us to greater faith, not in ourselves, but in the faithfulness and power of God. The king is the voice that inspires us to action to fulfill God's mission by rallying people together and leading them to success in fulfilling God's mission for us. These three voices, when spirit led, work in harmony to keep our life and ministry in balance. The prophet makes sure we are fighting the right battles and on the right mission. The king leads us forward in accomplishing the mission. The priest encourages us along the way to not be discouraged or lose faith. We need to see our own gift and understand our role, but also value the other voices and the great necessity of all three in order to be successful Too many Churches and ministries, are so heavily focused on one style of leading, that they become ineffective. We see the perfect balance and operation of all three in Jesus who is our ultimate prophet, priest, and King!
