Genesis 20:6-7
And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”
Deuteronomy 18:18-19
I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
The office of the prophet was significant as the prophet became the mouthpiece for God.
The prophet received and delivered the message of God on any subject.
God used the voice of a prophet to lead, guide and even warn His people, or other nations what HE will do.
Prophets had two main functions:
1. To explain the plan and purpose of God and tell us what he will do.
2. To turn people from their rebellion back to God that they might be saved.
Amos 3:7
Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
II Chronicles 24:19
Yet He sent prophets to them, to bring them back to the LORD; and they testified against them, but they would not listen.
Big Idea:
The prophetic today releases God’s passion for us. The prophetic calls us into His Grace and relationship.
Closing Thought:
As New Covenant Believers we are all called to prophesy. But that means to build up and encourage.
I Corinthians 14:1-3
Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
We have to be in the right spirit to prophesy.
Grace, Mercy and Love!
