The big tech names were a drag on the overall market on Tuesday, with the S&P slipping to test the 20-DMA once again, which has been a rising trend line for the past few months. If the market against tests today, and fails, look for the S&P at 4800-ish, at about the 50-DMA. Note, too, along with that rising trend line, a negative divergence in relative strength. Markets hit all-time highs with softer CPI: The biggest contributor was decline in Homeowners' Equivalent Rent. Markets are now anticipating two rate cuts this year. Consumers are showing signs of weakening; hardest hit are Gen-Z & Millennials. Stocks & Bonds rally on weaker CPI; markets are extremely over bought. Look for a re-test of the 50-DMA with market corrective action anticipated. WalMart has decent earnings; consumer spending is what drives the economy. Quality of Employment numbers matter: Full Time vs Part Time Jobs; Why the Government's Employment formula is bogus. How we calculate Inflation now (also bogus). The Risk is never zero. Answering emails: When will the market crash? Being out of the market; more money is lost trying to avoid a crash than is lost during a crash. 5-16-24 It's a Mistake to Be Entirely Out of Equities

Bonds rallied, Stocks rallied, and Gold rallied all across the board, thanks to a weaker than expected CPI Print which suggested the Fed will cut rates at least two times this year. It was a risk-on day. Markets closed the day at their highs; they are extremely over bought at this point, and that would infer that some type of corrective action is in the offing. (Markets are also very deviated from normal ranges of their moving averages.) Remember, in order to have a moving average, you have to have trading above AND below that average over a period of time. Big deviations lead to a re-test of support. A re-test of the 50-DMA would create an opportunity to work off some of this over bought condition, and also to add some exposure. Bad news is good news for the markets because it means the Fed is more likely to cut rates. Overall, there is a bullish bias to the markets; we are going to have some corrective action, however, and that will provide oppoprtunity. Markets spent much of Monday flopping around but finishing the day with a green candle. Markets are still overbought and still on a buy signal, so we're expecting correction within a few days: Nothing major, but a healthy pullback to re-test the 50-DMA and alleviate the overbought conditions.
