Episode 182: Protecting the Bite with Eugene⁣

Your Working Dog Radio hosts, Eric @vanessk9 & Ted @ted_summers, sit down with⁣ Eugene P. Ramirez. ⁣

This is an important episode to listen to if you handle a K9 or if you are in law enforcement, as there is a national movement to get rid of bite dogs. Ramirez is working to stop the removal of these canines, and he and the gents discuss the legalities of having a bite dog on the team, and best practices to follow to help preemptively protect your dog and team. Ramirez instructed a class at HITS going over report writing, policies and procedures, training issues, use of force issues, supervisor liability, contemporary issues facing law enforcement, and how to defend against the inevitable lawsuit - some of which, he highlights for the listeners in this episode.⁣

Former Deputy District Attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Eugene P. Ramirez received his degree in Political Science from California State University, where he minored in both Criminal Justice and Public Policy. Ramirez has also worked as a reserve police officer for the Whittier Police Department and the Monterey Park Police Department. He serves as an advisor to several public entities on the issues of use of force, canine and SWAT issues and policies and procedures, liability issues, supervision issues, and risk management issues. Fun note, Ramirez has also been awarded Certificates of Appreciation from the United States Army Special Operations Command (Fort Bragg, North Carolina) and from the United States Secret Service.
