Roxana, known by most as Roxy, is a Mexican American who lives in Tulum, Mexico. Born in Cuernavaca, she moved to the US to study first at a boarding school in Pennsylvania and then at Long Island University where she studied Environmental Studies. She began a master's program in Coastal Management at La Paz University but has not finished. A well respected cave diver, scuba instructor, freediver and yogi, Roxy’s been in Tulum off and on since 2004.
In this episode, Roxy talks about her work to protect the coral reefs and coastal areas that have given her life so much meaning here in the Riviera Maya. She talks about coastal protection and the value of knowing the law in every culture but especially when you are trying to protect areas that are under huge pressure for development. She also talks about the threats to the reef system that extends from Cancun to Honduras and how we can all make a difference in protecting fragile areas that need it, including our spirits.
