It’s a popular book, but a few things can be confusing about its content if it’s not clear up front.

And that’s the fact that for an ancient Hebrew, if they hear in scripture the words “my son.” Most of time that will mean Yahweh is referring to Israel, which includes all of God’s people. It might be tempted to make that gender inclusive because it seams like it's only advice for men. But you risk losing the significance of Israel being called God’s son way back in Exodus and the reality that God’s inheritance was always meant to go to all nations men and women alike. So there’s a lot there to talk about but for now just know that when it it refers to my son, think all of God’s people, and remember that reading scripture is always a cross cultural experience.

Second is the personification of wisdom. Wisdom is presented as a woman throughout proverbs. So when you hear language referring to “HER.” think wisdom which makes us behave and become like God, which is what image bearers where made to do.
