  • When Your Yes Means No (audio)
Six times James makes reference to the misuse of "the tongue." Here he refers to the worst of all being the untruthful tongue. He repeats what Jesus said in Matthew 23. Jews were masters at the art of evasion. He speaks not of foul language or making promises but of craftily breaking promises. It was a form of hypocrisy and lying. James urges them to walk in integrity saying, let your yes be yes and your no be no.

Literally, he means groaning and murmuring against another believer. The answer to the second question is "the Lord is pitiful - full of pity - and of tender mercy." By God's mercy at the cross we were redeemed and by HIs mercy in life we are kept.
